The director of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Taiki Nishimura, took it to Twitter in a recent thread where he said that a studio did not pay for his services and that he is willing to pursue a legal action if it would not be given to him, "I will do it. The company that produced the anime that did not pay the production fee two and a half years ago, will be published in a general weekly magazine under their real name.”

Nishimura added that they are also considering undergoing criminal proceedings, “After consulting with attorneys and others, we will also consider criminal proceedings."

Nishimura is also planning to bring into the action the labor union of the parent company for the distribution of the DVD copies without paying them first, "The DVD is being distributed without payment, and we will sue the parent company's labor union and each of the distribution companies first.”

His spicy words to end the tweet sends chills, “You underestimated us, remember."

Nishimura has yet to speak up which studio is the one that didn’t pay his services and many are wondering whether it is Pierrot, the studio house of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

This is not new in the anime industry as there are a lot of grievances that are suffered by the people behind everyone’s beloved anime shows as they face various labor problems such as unpaid wages, tough schedules, some are even facing harassment in their workplace, and other difficulties that they are juggling while producing the shows that the fans and viewers are yearning for.

Overworked and underpaid, directors like Nishimura deserves better than the treatment they are receiving from whichever studio. Considering that anime shows are finally getting international attention for their craftsmanship, the success of these shows should also be felt by the people working tirelessly to deliver it to the world but instead, they are still buried in difficulties.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations will be having its next episode released on March 13, 2022 on Funimation and Crunchyroll.
