It looks like Bojack Horseman voice actress Amy Sedaris has just been cast to voice a brand new character in Disney's live-action adaptation for The Lion King.
According to a new report by Variety, Sedaris has just been cast in The Lion King, joining the remake's voice cast as a brand-new character that wasn't featured in the original animated film from 1994. Sedaris' character has been described by the publication as an elephant shrew, however, Variety hasn't offered too many details about her role or whether she'll be playing one of Simba's friends or possibly one of the villains of the film.
However, seeing how Sedaris was cast this late in production, fans can probably assume that the voice actress will be playing a small supporting role in the upcoming live-action/ CGI movie.
Of course, a small role doesn't necessarily mean that Sedaris doesn't have that much for offer The Lion King. The actress isn't unfamiliar with the art of voice acting – she's done the voice work for Princess Carolyn and other characters in all five seasons of the critically-acclaimed Netflix animated series, Bojack Horseman. She's also lent her voice to popular cartoon shows like Cartoon Network's Steven Universe and Star vs. The Forces of Evil. If anything, Sedaris has enough experience to join The Lion King.
Here's the official synopsis of the movie:
"From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau's all-new "The Lion King" journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub's arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa."
Disney fans are certainly going to be busy next year. The Lion King premieres July 19, 2019.
