Boba Fett's Slave I Official New Name Revealed

Fans are still understandably sore after Disney decided to rename Boba Fett's starship. However, it looks like Slave I will not have to be called "Boba Fett's Starship" for long. Star Wars has just revealed the new official name of the iconic ship with a distinct name.

Back in June, the name change was confirmed after LEGO unveiled a new Star Wars set at LEGO CON 2021. The people at LEGO also confirmed that it was Disney's idea to rename Slave I to "Boba Fett's Starship" in an effort to avoid problematic terms.

Since then, people have been making jokes about the name change but it looks like Star Wars is stepping in to give the former Slave I a less generic identity. Then press release for the new comic book War of the Bounty Hunters confirms that Boba Fett's iconic starship now has a new name.

The press release confirms that War of the Bounty Hunters will have six variant covers aptly titled Behold the Vehicles of War. Each cover will focus on a bounty hunter's vehicle and Boba's starship is one of the features. Here's the list of the variant covers.

Bossk and The Hound's Tooth
Boba Fett and Firespray
IG-88 and IG-2000
Zuckuss and The Mist Hunter
Valance Beilert and The Broken Wing
Dengar and The Punishing One

First of all, Firespray doesn't have the same awesome effect as Slave I but it's still a better moniker than Boba Fett's Starship. Additionally, there is no canon explanation for the name change that exists in the Star Wars Universe. With that in mind, we're hoping everything will be explained in War of the Bounty Hunters or Boba's new show.

Boba returns (hopefully, with Slave I aka Firespray) in The Book of Boba Fett, which premieres on Disney+ this December.
