In just a few weeks, Blue Beetle will finally arrive in theaters and a lot of fans are looking forward to seeing the hero's much-awaited big-screen debut, especially now that the DC franchise is being rebooted again.
There have been some questions about the film's placement in the new DCU franchise under DC Studios, but fortunately, it was confirmed that the character will be part of the DCU which makes it more pivotal than the other DCEU films this year.
It is still unknown at the moment how the film will connect to the new DCU. Nevertheless, it gave it more value from the perspective of the audience as it looks like it will be incorporated into the rebooted franchise.
Xolo Maridueña Discusses James Gunn's Reaction and Involvement in Blue Beetle
In an interview with Total Film magazine (via Heroic Hollywood), Maridueña discussed Gunn's reaction to the film and shared that he had an enthusiastic response after watching.
He also revealed that the DC Studios co-chairman was also involved during post-production as he gave out some notes for the story.
"I just remember James Gunn has this really excited energy to him all the time," he said.
"But them coming into this position of the movie already being made, and then being like, ‘All right [mimes rifling through a filing cabinet as if rummaging through the movie], let’s see what we have here’ – it was very rewarding for them to actually respond well to it and enjoy it."
Maridueña added, "They had their notes here and there story-wise, but I think, in capturing the essence of Jaime and the Reyes family, [they] think we did a really great job."
It is great to hear that Gunn had a positive response to the film since it is the validation that the filmmakers and the cast need as they are in the middle of the franchise's transition period and it assured them that they will have support from the new management.
Until we see the film in its entirety, it is hard to tell what kind of involvement did Gunn have and whether they made some changes based on his notes in order to make it palatable to the DCU. Nevertheless, this should excite fans who are looking forward to seeing it.
