Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 1 Recap
Returning after a decade, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Episode 1’s opening shot was like an ode to the arc’s main villain – Yhwach.
The opening lines introduced the sealed king who has awakened after more than 900 years.
The scene changed to the Shinigami Research and Development Institute, where the 12th Division Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi asked 3rd Seat Akon about the status of the Shutara Scale.
In the monitoring room, the technicians were freaking out over the alarming readings they were receiving from various sectors.
A technician informed Akon about the Hollows continuing to disappear. If this continued to happen, the boundary between Soul Society and the Human World will likely collapse.
Mayuri noted that only they were capable of completely destroying the Hollows.
Elsewhere, Zennosuke accompanied Ryunosuke Yuki and Shino Madarame to Karakura Town.
Before leaving, Zennosuke told Ryunosuke and Shino to get along and focus on killing Hollows. Shino slapped Ryunosuke for being timid.
Later, Shino told him that she will patrol the north side while he must take care of the south.
After patrolling the empty streets and rooftops, Ryunosuke decided to sit on the bridge. However, he was confronted by a massive Hollow.
Ryunosuke jumped on the ground and started running while frantically trying to call Shino.
He leaped across rooftops to get away from the Hollow who was following him.
Eventually, he reached a rooftop where he witnessed a bloodied Shino surrounded by three Hollows. He froze as he wondered if he will die tonight.
The Hollow from the bridge instantly attacked Ryunosuke and he was left motionless in a pool of blood.
The Hollow was ready to go for the kill strike but was sliced in half by a Getsuga Tensho.
The other Hollows were distracted by the ambush. Suddenly, a Heilig Pfeil zoomed through the air and cut off the arm that was holding Shino.
Yasutora Sado swiftly caught Shino while Shuno and Ayame approached Ryunosuke and enveloped him with Soten Kisshun.
Orihime Inoue told Ryunosuke that she will complete their healing after the battle is over.
Soon, Ichigo Kurosaki walked in to join his comrades. A fierce battle ensued as Ichigo and his friends obliterated an entire army of Hollows that surrounded them.
After the battle was over, Ryunosuke asked Ichigo who he was and Ichigo told him that he is a substitute Shinigami.
Later, Ryunosuke regained consciousness and found himself in Ichigo’s bedroom in the Kurosaki Clinic.
As the episode progressed, Ebern jumped out of nowhere and landed on Ichigo’s bed.
Ichigo got annoyed and asked him to get off his bed, but Ebern chose to ignore him and eventually got kicked out of the room by Ichigo.
Later, Ebern and Ichigo engaged in a battle.
The episode also showcased Yumichika Ayasegawa and Ikkaku Madarame investigating an abandoned Rukongai Village.
Toward the later part of the episode, seven masked individuals in identical uniforms barged into Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto’s office after decapitating a Shinigami.
Certainly, they got Yamamoto’s attention and Luders Friegen wasted no time in informing Yamamoto that they had come to declare war.
Elsewhere, Ebern fired several shots of Reishi at his opponent Ichigo, who was able to dodge them and even cut through many of them using his Zangetsu.
Ichigo was confused about the identity of his enemy but he figured he was a Quincy.
During the battle, Ebern was trying to force Ichigo to unleash his Bankai. When Ichigo did launch his Bankai, Ebern hoped that he would end it for good.
However, Ichigo managed to destroy all the incoming attacks and even fired a Getsuga Tensho at Ebern. Ebern was shocked that he could not end his Bankai.
At that moment, Ichigo appeared behind Ebern with his blade to the latter's throat.
Ichigo stated that he has several questions that needed to be answered. He insisted that Ebern was coming with him, but Ebern had other plans.
He created a Shadow and Ichigo moved back. The Shadow engulfed Ebern and disintegrated in thin air.
After a while, Luders and his six comrades walked into the main hall of Silbern. Luders saw that Ebern was kneeling down, so the former mocked him.
Ebern clarified that he would never bow down in front of him. Luders looked angry and suddenly, Yhwach sliced off his right arm.
Luders was shown collapsing and screaming in pain. Yhwach reminded him that he hates conflicts more than anything.
Yhwach told them not to argue in front of him. He then went on to ask them to share their report for peace.
