Blade Actor Mahershala Ali Was Originally In Talks For Role In The Batman

There have been quite a number of updates on The Batman today. Word has come out that Jonah Hill and Jeffery Wright are currently in negotiations with Warner Brothers to join the cast of the highly anticipated movie.

Hill is reportedly in talks for The Batman's Penguin role. Meanwhile, Westworld and Hunger Games star Wright is being considered for The Batman's version of Jim Gordon. However, rumor has it that another major Hollywood star was actually in line for the role – Academy Award-winning actor Mahershala Ali.

After the news came out that Wright was being considered for The Batman, Collider writer Jeff Sneider decided to head to Twitter to reveal that Warner Brothers had originally wanted Ali as The Batman's Jim Gordon. Unfortunately, negotiations fell through when Marvel decided to cast the Green Book and Moonlight star as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Blade.

While the news might come as a bit of a disappointment to DC fans, we understand why Ali would opt for Blade. Not only is he being offered a leading role, but he's also offered a role that so many others would have wanted. Blade is an icon, and Marvel fans have been clamoring for Marvel to reboot the Vampire hunter's film franchise.

Besides, Wright is just as capable of the Jim Gordon role as Mahershala Ali.

The Batman is set to feature Robert Pattinson as a younger version of the Dark Knight. Though there hasn't been that much revealed about the film's story just yet, The Batman is set to feature an entirely new take on Bruce Wayne.

The Batman is set to premiere on June 25, 2021.
