International Women's Day is going to end soon but it's good to see how much progress has been made in recent years, though we still have a long way to go when it comes to deleting all sexism (thanks neckbeards). At the least, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh have decided to be good sports by celebrating the day, while also naming some of the big female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
On the Twitter post, Pugh talks about how she's excited to join a universe filled with strong female characters like Peggy Carter, Captain Marvel, Pepper Potts, and Gamora. That's not a bad list at all, though I personally would have added Okoye and Shuri, though this is literally just an acknowledgment of a special day and nothing more.
Black Widow is only the second movie to star a woman in the lead role, with many fans feeling that it should have come out earlier. While sometime after Iron Man 2 would have been fine, the best moment would have been after Captain America: Winter Soldier, where she proved to be a fun and interesting character.
Another argument could be made that it should have been after either Avengers: Age of Ultron or Captain America: Civil War, the latter of which has some validity since the movie is set after this one.
However you feel about the time of this movie's release, most of us are just happy to see Natasha get her solo film. It's been way too long and the fact that Marvel Studios waited this long to pull the trigger shows the company still has improvements to make.
Black Widow will be coming to theaters on May 1.
