Black Widow Star Scarlett Johansson's Lawsuit Against Disney Has Settled

After two months of dispute, Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson and Disney have finally reached an agreement, ending the lawsuit that the actress filed as a result of a breach of contract regarding the release of the Marvel film in both theaters and on Disney+. Of course, the settlement will cost a lot of bucks for the Mouse House. According to Deadline, they were able to reach an agreement with a deal of more than $40 million.

Both sides have made a public statement regarding the settlement. "I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney," Johansson said. "I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come."

Meanwhile, Alan Bergman, Chairman of Disney Studios Content, said in their statement, "I'm very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney's Tower of Terror."

It is great that Johansson and Disney were finally able to settle. It's also not surprising that they were able to resolve the dispute at this span of time since, in most cases like this, it always ends with a settlement as they want to avoid going through the complicated process of trial.

But it was a long road before they mutually reached a settlement. As you recall, Disney released a statement hours after Johansson filed the lawsuit calling the actress insensitive to the circumstance regarding the pandemic and even publicly revealed the amount she earned for the film. Johansson's team responded back by criticizing the Mouse House's shameless attack on the actress. Several actors, producers, organizations, and guilds have publicly supported Johansson. It was a two-month-long PR statement spatting between the two sides. In the end, the actress was able to get what she wants.

One good news that also came from the settlement is that Johansson will still work with Disney on future projects including Tower of Terror which was reportedly in the works months ago. We might also see the actress come back on a future MCU project. Despite the two-month dispute that went messy, the future is bright again for the working relationship between Johansson and Disney.
