Black Widow Star Scarlett Johansson Asked Disney for $100 Million Before Filing Lawsuit

Scarlett Johansson shocked the entire Entertainment world last July when she filed a lawsuit against Disney, accusing Marvel Studios' parent company of committing a breach of their contract. This has something to do with Black Widow having a simultaneous release in theaters and on Disney+'s Premier Access aka a "hybrid release", a move that allegedly wasn't part of their original deal.

After a heated back-and-forth, both parties have been suspiciously silent over the last couple of days but now, new details regarding Scarlett's newsmaking legal pursuit have surfaced online and it may finally shed some light as to why the actress resorted to such a bold and daring move in the first place.

Turns out, Johansson tried to negotiate a deal with Disney that would've ensured her with a cool $100 million dollars (via The Wall Street Journal) after Black Widow's theatrical and streaming run was over. Johansson's camp calculated the sum "based on what the star would receive in a hypothetical global box-office take of $1.2 billion." The report claims that Disney never made a counter-offer which ultimately led to the actress filing a stunning lawsuit against the company.

This new development in the entire Scarlett Johansson-Disney drama once again puts the House of Mouse in a bad light. I mean, no matter which way you put it, Johansson deserved to exit the Marvel Cinematic Universe on her own terms, and quite frankly, I don't think it was too much to ask for a sum she worked hard for. Disney could've easily granted her request and none of this mess would've happened.

Black Widow is still streaming via Disney+'s Premier Access.
