Ever since the first Avengers movie, there has been a running gag in the films between Hawkeye and Black Widow about "Budapest", and it was referenced by the duo one last time in Avengers: Endgame. With the Black Widow film set to come out next year, it's possible that we're going to actually see what happened there onscreen.
According to HN Entertainment, the production for Black Widow is looking to start shooting scenes in Budapest, Hungary. We don't know if this location has anything to do with the running gag, but I could see it being used for other things besides a flashback.
Personally, whatever happened in Budapest is not really a question I need answered, but if it gives us more of the character, I can't see why not. I was just kind of hoping that this movie pushes forward after the events of Endgame because I'm getting tired of woman-lead superhero movies always being period pieces.
With Spider-Man: Far from Home officially ending Marvel Phase 3, Black Widow would then be the film that opens up Phase 4. Does Widow survive? Do we actually follow the path of her successor? Until we get a first trailer, we don't really know what to expect from this movie yet. Let's just hope it gives a little more flavor to the MCU roster of movies because, while Captain Marvel was a success, it was actually one of the plainest MCU films to come out. Hopefully they take more risks when it comes to Black Widow.
The Black Widow film is expected to come out sometime in 2020.
