Black Widow Leak Teases Major Twist in Scarlett Johansson’s Standalone Movie

Though it's been a while since Marvel's dropped promotional material for Black Widow, Marvel fans have gotten new updates about Scarlett Johansson's very first standalone movie thanks to interviews with the film's director Cate Shortland and thanks to leaks circulating online.

Earlier this month, Shortland confirmed that Natasha Romanoff would be passing on the Black Widow baton to Yelena Belova, a Red Room product played by Florence Pugh. Now, a brand new leak has surfaced on the web thanks to Reddit, and according to the post, the information comes from a member of the marketing team that was given a screening of the film.

Disney is reportedly looking at alternatives to make the most out of the movie that's supposed to kickstart Phase 4 of the MCU, and so it's decided to give a marketing team an early screening.

"Disney is in a real fuckin tizzy trying to figure out what to do with Mulan and Black Widow with all these Covid delays," the self-proclaimed "Black Widow marketing team member writes, "They've been showing the movies to all sorts of different teams to see what the best way to re-coup their investment is. My marketing team was one. I feel safe sharing this because of the sheer amount of people in this industry I know who've seen the movie."

The leaker shares a lot of details about the movie, saying that the film opens up with Robert Downey Jr's voice setting up the film saying that towards the end of Captain America: Civil War. Tony tells Natasha that she needs to run away, and so Black Widow gets on a motorcycle and drives away from the Avengers facility.

She then goes on a search for a device that would help Captain America (Chris Evans) and his faction avoid detection from the government, and that leads here to Budapest where she goes in search of Yelena who could help her find the device.

The leak goes on to describe major plot points in the movie, but the twist comes up in the film's credit scenes where we learn that Taskmaster is alive and that he's been working with Thunderbolt Ross and with Yelena this whole time.

While this sort of leak sounds like something that's been passed along before, it does offer more details than previous posts.

Let's wait and see whether any of these come true.

Phase 4 of the MCU begins when Black Widow premieres on November 6, 2020.
