Black Widow Director Teases Sequel Featuring Yelena Belova

It has already been established that Black Widow is going to be a one-shot standalone film. After all, Natasha Romanoff's story has already come to an end after what happened in Avengers: Endgame.

Nevertheless, director Cate Shortland may have confirmed that we'll be getting Black Widow 2. In addition to that, the sequel could focus on Yelena Belova.

Since Black Widow is set before the events in Avengers: Infinity War, it's safe to say that Nat will survive in the film. However, we also know it's impossible to expect a sequel to the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

But has Shortland figured out a way to make it work? The filmmaker recently spoke to Deadline where she pointed out that Black Widow 2 is a possibility.

"I think these girls have got a lot of asses still to kick," Shortland said. Although fans initially thought she was talking about Nat, it sounds like the director is referring to Yelena and the other Black Widows.

It's pretty obvious that Marvel Studios has plans for Yelena considering that they chose Florence Pugh to play the character. A second Black Widow movie could easily focus on Yelena as she follows Nat's footsteps.

So could we see Nat in Black Widow 2? It wouldn't be a huge surprise if Scarlett Johansson reprises her role in yet another MCU film. However, it is important to point out that Marvel has not yet confirmed a sequel so it's best to take this with a grain of salt.

Black Widow will finally premiere on July 9, 2021.
