Black Widow Director Addresses Iron Man Cameo

There is little doubt that an Iron Man cameo was one of the biggest things that fans were looking forward to in Black Widow. After all, there have been reports that Robert Downey Jr. filmed a scene for the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe flick.

So where is Tony Stark? Cate Shortland has addressed the superhero's supposed appearance in the movie.

Early reports strongly suggested that Downey is one of the major MCU stars who would appear in Black Widow. It was even stated that Iron Man will show up to help Natasha Romanoff evade Thaddeus Ross after the events in Captain America: Civil War. However, Shortland pointed out that it wasn't necessary for the film.

"Initially, there were discussions about everything, about all of the different characters," Shortland told Total Film. However, they ultimately agreed with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige that it's best to let Nat handle things on her own.

"What we decided was, and I think Kevin was really great, he said, 'She doesn't need the boys.' We didn't want it to feel like she needs the support. We want her to stand alone. And she does," Shortland said.

It's certainly the best decision for Black Widow considering that the movie is all about Nat and it confirms how she can get things done better than the other superheroes. Needless to say, it was a great way to let Nat finally take the spotlight.

Although Black Widow didn't bring back Tony, fans still got an awesome surprise. The post-credits scene featured a cameo from Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who reprised her role as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. In addition to that, Jeremy Renner has an uncredited voice cameo as Clint Barton.

Black Widow premiered on Friday, July 9, 2021. Although the movie was made available on Disney+ through Premier Access, it is currently well on its way to getting the biggest opening weekend haul in the domestic and international box office. Stay tuned for updates on this story.
