There was a whole lot of concern when Marvel announced it would be delaying the release of Black Widow in light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Scarlett Johansson's standalone movie as Natasha Romanoff was supposed to kick off Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but because of the novel coronavirus outbreak, the film has been moved back to an undisclosed release date. Would the pushback affect all the other films in the upcoming MCU slate?
According to Variety, the postponed release of Black Widow isn't going to delay the rest of the movies Marvel has prepared for Phase 4 of the MCU.
"Pushing "Black Widow" affects nothing on the MCU timeline, said one individual close to Marvel Studios," the entertainment news outlet writes. "It was not clear if the implication was that "Widow" will see the light of day before August, or that the film is inconsequential to Phase Four, or if the source has a tesseract."
We're glad to hear that The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and all of the other films and series lined up for Phase 4 aren't going to be affected by Black Widow's delay.
This probably means that Marvel plans to release Black Widow before The Eternals premieres in November this year, though we'll have to wait for some official confirmation from the studio. Even if it does get pushed after the release of The Eternals, the movie probably won't have any effect on the current MCU timeline seeing how Black Widow is set sometime between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War.
Black Widow was originally set for release on May 1. Now the film has been pushed back to an undisclosed release date.
