Black Widow Casting Call Gives Us a Clue on the Film’s Villain

After 10 years in the MCU, Black Widow is finally getting her own movie. The film is set to start production later this year, and a casting call has come out giving us some details on who Natasha Romanoff may be going up against in the movie.

According to That Hashtag Show, the rewrites done on the movie by Ned Benson have now called for the film to look for a specific villain. The studio is currently looking for "either a Black British or African actor, 30-45, to portray a ‘tough, dangerous and mysterious' villain."

With people assuming that the villain will be of Russian descent, we can now put all those options off the table. With the details given, some are now thinking that Widow will be going up against the Taskmaster.

The film is speculated to be a period piece much like Captain Marvel and will look into the origins of Widow as an assassin. If that was the case, I kind of wish that they kept to the idea of having a Russian villain. Maybe we could have met Howard Stark's former partner Anton Vanko—the father of Ivan Vanko a.k.a. Whiplash, the villain from Iron Man 2.

Then again, I'm also up for Widow going up against the Winter Soldier. She is, after all, the only person who knows about him in Captain America 2. It would be a nice piece of added lore to the MCU if you ask me.

No release date has been set for Black Widow.
