We've all been waiting for updates on the Fantastic Four reboot that has already been announced by Marvel Studios. Interestingly, Black Widow almost had an awesome reference to the franchise that could have teased the Fantastic Four's arrival into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
There is little doubt that fans have been keeping an eye out for any Fantastic Four reference in the new MCU projects. For instance, people were convinced that the aerospace engineer in WandaVision was Reed Richards. Unfortunately, that little piece of detail didn't necessarily pan out.
Interestingly, we almost had a solid reference to Fantastic Four in Black Widow. Well, at least to their greatest adversary. Black Widow writer Eric Pearson has just revealed that he had wanted to tease Doctor Doom's fictional home country.
"I might've had a reference to Latveria in there -- I might have, but I don't think so. I don't think that lasted very long. I'm always trying to throw Latveria into stuff," Pearson told IGN.
Although the reference didn't show up in Black Widow, Pearson admitted that it was something that he had really wanted to add to the film.
"It's like one of those things where you want to be the first one to say it on an Instagram post or something!" he said.
We certainly know what Pearson is talking about. It would be awesome to be able to find an Easter Egg or reference in a movie or TV show and be the first one to point it out. Sadly, we may have to wait a little longer before Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four get a proper reference in the MCU.
The Fantastic Four reboot is still in early development although Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts is already on board to helm the project. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
Black Widow is still screening in theaters and on Disney+.
