Black Panther vsDeadpool #1 (Review)

The first issue of Black Panther vs. Deadpool mini-series brings together two of Marvel's biggest characters for a ridiculous showdown in Wakanda. Late Show writer Daniel Kibblesmith's witty comedy is accented by Ricardo Lopes Ortiz's cartoony but stylistic art style, making the crossover's humor a delight even though some Deadpool fourth wall-breaking jokes are a bit cringeworthy.

After Deadpool's fight with the Wrecker, the Merc with a Mouth goes on a hunt for Vibranium so he could save a victim's life. Of course, that means he would need to go to Wakanda where he would meet T'Challa, and in no time, Deadpool somehow makes it there in no time, and the way he does it made me laugh out loud. If you're a fan of Deadpool's crazy humor, this one is loaded with it. This is one of those comics that you can't really take too seriously.

Their fight itself is ridiculously entertaining as Deadpool breaks down how superhero crossovers happen. They come with a "small understanding, then there's a big fight, then some mutual threat will show up," according to Deadpool. Even Shuri unleashes some kind of illusion ability that would remind you of Itachi from the Naruto series. Knowing Deadpool's intentions for the Vibranium, it seems that Black Panther is more of a villain in this fight. T'Challa is harsh and a bit brutal here but what do you expect from a king whose country is invaded by a troublesome Merc?

Overall, Kibblesmith is able to balance these totally different characters so well but after considering what's on the stake and why they're fighting, their conflict looks more like a silly scene from a Monty Python film than an epic crossover.
