We're only a month away from the release of Marvel Studios' Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and fans are more than ready to see the crowning of the next Wakandan hero who will take over from T'Challa. Over the last couple of years, MCU diehards have speculated which character could end up taking on the mantle but as the studio began releasing teasers for the sequel, the identity of the new Black Panther became crystal clear.

However, the latest statement from Wakanda Forever stars seems to indicate that the person behind the mask isn't who we think they are. In an interview with Elle, Lupita Nyong’o addressed all speculations and rumors surrounding Shuri becoming T'Challa's successor. While the Nakia actress didn't confirm anything, she simply said "We love the speculation," seemingly dismissing the idea.

Danai Gurira, who plays Okoye chimed in and said "They’re not getting all of it right!" to which Nyong’o replied, “No, they haven’t guessed it at all.” Does it mean that Shuri isn't going to be the one to continue T'Chaka and T'Challa's legacy or are they just trying their best to play coy?

Considering merchandising for Wakanda Forever has given fans a dead giveaway that Shuri is in fact the new Black Panther, there's absolutely no doubt that Letitia Wright's character will be stepping up to the plate. At this rate, there seems to be no chance that it could be anyone else other than Shuri but of course, Marvel has always been the master of keeping things like this airtight so a swerve isn't exactly out of the question.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will hit theaters on November 11, 2022.
