Black Panther star Lupita Nyong'o might have given an exceptional performance in the Jordan Peele horror movie Us, however, it seems like the actress didn't get any attention from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this year. The Academy just recently posted its full list of nominees for the 92nd Academy Awards, and unfortunately, Nyong'o didn't receive any nomination for her role as Adeliade in Us.
Instead, the Oscars gave the nominations to Cynthia Erivo for her role in Harriet, Scarlett Johansson for her role in Marriage Story, Saoirse Ronan for her role in Little Women, Charlize Theron for her role in Bombshell, and Renee Zellweger for her role in Judy.
While Nyong'o doesn't seem to be complaining about the missing nomination, her fans are expressing outrage over the snub, taking to social media to share their thoughts about the matter.
Check out some of the tweets down here:
It's obvious that fans aren't really pleased by Nyong'o's missing name in the list of nominees. Some are questioning the Oscars push for diversity in race and gender – very little people of color have made the list.
Besides Nyong'o's snub, fans are also disappointed that Us failed to secure any nominations at this year's Oscars. Jordan Peele's horror movie did exceptionally well among critics, raking in a 93% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. According to the critic consensus of the movie, "with Jordan Peele's second inventive, ambitious horror film, we have seen how to beat the sophomore jinxes, and it is Us."
