Before being the Black Panther that many Marvel fans know and love today, Chadwick Boseman actually had a different character he wanted to play in mind.

Among the movies included at Disney+'s launch is the highest-grossing film Avengers: Endgame. The streaming platform actually included a bonus featurette in the movie which shows casting director Sarah Finn talking about some of the actors, characters, and auditions. One of them includes Boseman, who, as it turns out, originally auditioned for the role of Drax the Destroyer. You can check out the clip below, including some parts of Boseman's audition tape (via user @theunclekwesi on Twitter).

Surprisingly, the King of Wakanda is revealed to be nearly a part of Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Finn mentioned that Boseman's audition was "incredible" because he played the "goofy" character "like a king." She added that he played the character with ferocity, dignity, and regalness but wasn't quite "right for Drax." However, in the casting for Black Panther, Finn pointed out that she was already sure of Boseman for the role.

Obviously, Boseman didn't get the role and was given to Dave Bautista. Which, in my opinion, both characters actually ended up in actors who play the characters really well. Marvel has cast actors who were the perfect fit for both roles so Boseman not getting the Drax role was probably for the best.
