Black Panther Gets Six Oscar Nominations, Including Best Picture

After getting shunned from BAFTA, many assumed that the Academy Awards would do the same to Black Panther, with fans expecting the film to only get a visual effects nomination. However, the Academy has revealed their choices for a number of awards and Black Panther has six nominations, the most important one being Best Picture.

That's right, Black Panther is the first Marvel movie to get a Best Picture nomination from the Oscars. The people who work at Marvel Studios must be ecstatic as the company has been heavily pushing the film for Best Picture, even outright hating its possible win for Most Popular Film, a category that has now been scrapped after a ton of controversy.

Black Panther is also nominated for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Song, Best Original Score, and Best Production Design. Marvel fans will also be happy to know that Avengers: Infinity War is being nominated for Best Visual Effects because, let's be honest, that film doesn't deserve a Best Picture nomination. It's a great event for Marvel fans but is barely a "movie," since it isn't standalone.

Now that Marvel has gotten the Oscar nomination they've wanted for a long time, they may want to work harder for future nominations. It will be interesting to see which Marvel movie is going to get the next Oscar nomination.

Black Panther is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital.
