It looks like we finally know what the Black Panther spin-off series will be about. A new report confirms that the Disney+ show will focus on Danai Gurira's Okoye and could even feature the rest of the Dora Milaje.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that a Black Panther series is in development and will air on Disney+. However, details about the project were not revealed.
Interestingly, the new information comes from The Hollywood Reporter's recent profile on Hollywood lawyers. In the report, it is confirmed that Jamie Mandelbaum had brokered a deal for Gurira to star in the Black Panther series. Moreover, the former Walking Dead actress is set to lead as the new show will explore Okoye's origin story.
This is great news for fans who have been hoping to see more of Okoye after she only appeared briefly in Avengers: Endgame. The character was also absent when the Dora Milaje led by Ayo made an appearance in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Luckily, we'll get to learn more about Okoye soon.
Gurira first played Okoye in Black Panther. The character would later show up in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Since then, we haven't seen much of Okoye but it looks like she'll be back in action soon.
In addition to the spin-off series, the sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently in development and is expected to begin production in July. The second movie, which will not recast the late Chadwick Boseman's role, is scheduled for release on July 8, 2022.
