The wait is nearly over for the new season. After its initial announcement back at Anime Expo last year, Black Butler season 4 finally confirmed its April release date.
Black Butler’s new season got an official release date announcement via a trailer that showed off new clips featuring the Prefect 4.
On top of the premiere date and footage from the show, the trailer also revealed the four new cast members that will join the series.
Black Butler: Public School Arc Reveals Four More Voice Actors
The Black Butler anime continues to be one of the most popular dark fantasy and supernatural anime from the late 2000s, though it has been nearly four years since the last season aired.
Finally, Anime Expo 2023 saw the announcement of Black Butler: Public School Arc, which is essentially the show’s fourth season.
Instead of A-1 Pictures though, this new season is being produced by CloverWorks, the popular studio behind hits such as Bocchi the Rock! and My Dress-Up Darling.
Even though A-1 Pictures isn’t coming back, the show will feature returning cast members. These include Daisuke Ono (Erwin in Attack on Titan) and Maaya Sakamoto (Echidna in Re:Zero) as Sebastian and Ciel, respectively.
The anime’s latest trailer also reveals four new voice cast members. These VAs play the roles of the Prefect 4, and they include:
- Toshiki Watanabe (Examiner in Baki) as Edgar Redmond
- Junya Enoki (Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen) as Lawrence Bluewer
- Shunsuke Takeuchi (Einar in Vinland Saga) as Herman Greenhill
- Tatsumaru Tachibana (Joseph in Ninja Kamui) as Gregory Violet

Black Butler Season 4 Gets April Release Date
Aside from being the series' long-awaited return, the Public School Arc is also an exciting one for fans. That’s because this new season is a proper canon entry.
For reference, parts of season 1 and the whole of season 2 are not considered canon by some fans given that the events there aren’t based on the manga.
Thus, the Prefect 4 characters along with the new clips in the trailer should be familiar to manga readers.
Black Butler: Public School Arc will be released on April 13, 2024. The show will air in Japan on Tokyo MX, BS11, MBS, and other select networks.
Meanwhile, international fans will be able to watch the show on Crunchyroll as the new Black Butler season is a highlight of the platform’s spring 2024 lineup.
