DC fans might not quite be sure about Black Adam's place in the DC film franchise that Warner Brothers has built over the past few years, but the movie's producer, Hiram Garcia, confirms that the movie is going to take place in the DC Extended Universe together with Zachary Levi's Shazam.
Speaking in an interview with ComicBook.com,Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia confirms a few things about the upcoming comic book movie. Not only is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's new DC movie set within the DCEU, however, but the producer also promises that the creative team's ideas for the anti-hero are wild and ambitious. Of course, Black Adam sharing the screen with Shazam has been the writing team's driving force while developing the movie.
"So first, because this is the same world as Shazam where everything is doing their own separate world. We have plans for our own version, we're starting to craft a DC universe there around Black Adam, Shazam and so forth and the plans for characters we have that are going to be introduced and so forth," Hiram said when asked by the entertainment news outlet whether Black Adam is going to stand on its own or whether it will share some connection to the DCEU.
While DC has been experimenting with standalone movies like the highly successful character study, Joker, Hiram says that the creative team for Black Adam wanted to stick with the franchise that WB built.
"Because ultimately we love the idea of a shared universe. I think the fans love the idea of a shared universe. They love seeing these characters interact," the producer elaborated, "So we have very ambitious plans. How are we going to do that and orchestrate it and it's all in the works."
There's a lot of excitement building up over Black Adam. Last week, The Rock decided to show off the first official look at his anti-hero, featuring a concept art created by BossLogic and by DC Comics' Jim Lee.
We can't wait to see what kind of adventures DC is going to take us when it features Black Adam.
Black Adam is set to premiere on December 22, 2021.
