Black Adam Casts Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate

007 has joined the DC Extended Universe! Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam has just cast former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, rounding out the Justice Society of America.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Brosnan will portray the powerful DC comic book hero in the upcoming Jaume Collet-Serra film. Doctor Fate serves as the leader of the JSA, which also includes Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell).

Doctor Fate is undoubtedly one of the coolest characters in comic books. In addition to being a master at magic and spellcasting, Kent Nelson is practically immortal and can control the elements. He has telekinesis, telepathy, and pyrokinesis as well.

The idea of Brosnan being a part of the DCEU is certainly a cool one considering that he rarely takes on fantasy or sci-fi roles. Brosnan had previously appeared as the centaur Chiron in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and had a small role in Mars Attacks! back in 1996. His most recent sci-fi project was Edgar Wright's The World's End which also starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

Black Adam is understandably one of the most highly anticipated DCEU films although it has not yet been given an official release date. Although production was supposed to start last year, filming had to be pushed back due to COVID-19. However, with Brosnan now onboard, there is little doubt that the movie can finally start shooting as scheduled in April.

Black Adam has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
