Birds of Prey: New Character Profiles Give More Info on Black Mask

It's no mystery that Harley Quinn has been in the center of all the PR for Birds of Prey, and with her co-stars set in the sideline, we barely know anything about Ewan McGregor's Black Mask a.k.a. Roman Sionis. What's interesting is, we have some new character bios for the cast, and we get to find out a little more about the movie's main villain.

While every other Birds member is a ‘skilled martial artist/hand to hand combatant', Black Mask's bio lists his special ability as "High Intelligence" and his signature weapons/props as ‘Masks, Custom leather gloves, Black mask pill case, and a Family crest gold ring.'

With that in mind, I guess we can say that Roman Sionis has a bit of a drug problem, and it's possible that it leads to his volatile wackiness that we see in the teaser. As for the gold ring bit, I think that's just one extra feature that would help audiences associate Black Mask to Sionis once he's ‘transformed.'

While it's not listed in the bio, Sionis has also been described as a narcissist in the film; so I guess that would lead to some kind of trauma when his mask is permanently burned into his face.

We don't know how the movie will make use of Black Mask, but seeing as his character is best known in the comics for his sadistic torture methods, I think it would be a waste if we didn't get to see him go wild in this movie. Hopefully, he turns out crazy in his own way, rather than just come out as the Joker in a different skin.

Catch Roman Sionis in Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) when the movie comes out Feb. 7, 2020.
