There might be a lot of excitement over DC's new Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) but it seems like the anticipation building up over the movie doesn't really translate to the film's box office predictions because the film isn't expected to go beyond $100 million when it arrives in cinemas.
According to a report by ComicBook.com, analysts aren't expecting too much from Birds of Prey, predicting that the film is going to bring in between $49 million to $55 million at the domestic box office when the movie arrives in cinemas later this year.
That isn't a whole lot of money for a movie that DC fans are excited to see. Other R-rated comic book movies like Deadpool opened to a haul of $132.4 million during its premiere back in February 2016. Deadpool 2 did pretty great as well, bringing in $125 million during its opening weekend. Logan brought in $97 million, and Joker brought in $96 million.
Even Suicide Squad, a DC spinoff considered one of the worst releases in Warner Brother's most recent DC film universe, has managed to gather a considerable amount during its opening, taking in $133 million during its premiere.
Of course, the R-Rating of the movie might be impacting the film's projections. We could probably expect to see the projections rise when Warner Brothers makes the final marketing push for the movie later on when the film approaches its release date.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is set to premiere on February 7, 2020.
