Birds of Prey Casts Ewan McGregor as Black Mask

Ewan McGregor may not be reprising the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi anytime soon, but he has found some work as the upcoming villain for the DCEU's Birds of Prey.

According to Deadline, Ewan McGregor has been cast as the Black Mask. Though the character is relatively obscure to the mainstream audience, Black Mask is actually known to be one of the more brutal and sadistic villains in Batman's Rogues gallery. He's a ruthless gang leader who has a penchant for torture. In the comics, he literally drove Catwoman's sister insane by killing her husband then force-feeding her his eyeballs.

Though McGregor is known mostly for playing the good guy, everyone is excited to see him play one of the most horrible people in the DC canon. Let's hope he doesn't disappoint.

It looks like Birds of Prey's cast is almost complete now with McGregor onboard. He will be joining actors Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress), Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary), and Rosie Perez (Renee Montoya). The only remaining Birds character to be cast is Cassandra Cain, and she's said to be a young 12-year-old girl.

This is the rumored plot for Birds of Prey:

After splitting up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya – come together to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord."

Birds of Prey is slated for a release on Feb. 7, 2020.
