There is little doubt that Ben Affleck's departure from The Batman is a hot topic for fans. But why exactly did the Justice League star decide to leave the Matt Reeves film? Affleck himself revealed his reasons and even found time to joke about retiring his cowl as the Dark Knight.
Affleck was recently a guest of Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his new film Triple Frontier. However, the host still managed to ask the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice actor about the news of his departure.
"I have decided- I tried to direct a version of it, worked with a really good screenwriter, but couldn't come up with a version. Couldn't crack it. So I thought it was time to let someone else take a shot at it and they got some really good people," Affleck said.
Kimmel decided that Affleck's cowl and cape should be officially retired so they got Guillermo to dress as Robert and hang the cape. Interestingly, Affleck revealed that the cape actually had the name "Batffleck" emblazoned on the back along with the number 12. And just in case you still didn't get the memo, Affleck actually said, "I'm not Batman."
The new Batman has not yet been cast. However, a previously revealed shortlist confirmed that Armie Hammer, Kit Harington, Robert Pattinson, and Richard Madden are being considered for the role. On the other hand, Warner Bros. has not yet given an official announcement about Affleck's replacement. We'll have to wait a little longer to get an update on this one.
