Though a lot of fans definitely loved Ben Affleck's portrayal of Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, they also have admitted that Batman's way of outright murdering criminals was something that went against what the character was all about. The Caped Crusader returns in the upcoming Justice League, and Affleck himself confirms that Batman will be more of his traditional self this time around.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Affleck confirms:
"BvS departed a little bit from the traditional Batman. He started out with all this rage directed at Superman, because of his coworkers who had died in the fight Superman had with Zod. He was holding on to a lot of anger, in a little bit of an irrational way, whereas this is a much more traditional Batman. He's heroic. He does things in his own way, but he wants to save people, help people."
Affleck goes on to explain the shift in character in the movie.
"This is more in keeping with the canon of how Batman's usually been portrayed, and how he's portrayed vis a vis the Justice League in the comics. This is more the Batman you would find if you opened up your average Batman comic book. Not that it's average, I think it's a really cool story. Actually, it's sort of a story about multilateralism. It's not a bad theme to have!"
It's definitely good to hear that Batman will be sticking back to his credo by the time he returns in Justice League. With him being a lot more violent in BvS, this is probably some sort of way for the movie to show just how much Superman's death has changed Batman.
With Ben Affleck's future in the franchise still unsure, a lot of fans are hopeful that he gives us his own satisfying Batman trilogy before he passes the torch on to someone younger. I'm hoping we get to see Terry McGinnis from Batman Beyond.
Justice League comes out Nov. 17.
