Beetlejuice 2 Casts Spider-Man Actor Willem Dafoe in Major Role

Recently, Warner Bros. confirmed that the long-awaited sequel to the 1988 classic Beetlejuice is finally happening as they set a 2024 release date and production is currently underway in London. Tim Burton is also back to direct the film.

We've been hearing a lot of updates about the film recently as it was heading to production including the new cast additions to the Beetlejuice family such as Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci.

Now, another notable name has been added to the sequel's growing ensemble as The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Oscar-nominated actor Willem Dafoe is joining the cast of Beetlejuice 2. He is playing a law enforcement officer in the afterlife.

Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara are confirmed to reprise their roles from the first film.

Ortega will be playing the role of Lydia Deetz's daughter while Theroux's role is being kept under wraps at the moment. Bellucci, who recently joined the cast, is reportedly going to play Beetlejuice's wife.

There is no confirmation yet whether other cast members from the first film such as Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, and Alec Baldwin will be returning to the sequel.

Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar wrote the screenplay for the sequel. Brad Pitt's Plan B company is producing the film.

The plot details also remain under wraps, but based on the details that we've heard so far, it looks like Beetlejuice was able to escape the after-life waiting room and encounter Lydia again, who now has a family of her own.

We've known for decades that Dafoe is a very talented actor as we've seen in various roles that he did such as the villainous Green Goblin in the Spider-Man franchise and acclaimed films such as The Lighthouse and The Florida Project so it is very exciting to see that he is going to be part of the cast.

Based on the description of his character, it sounds like he will have a pivotal role in the film and also potentially have a lot of scenes with Keaton. It is exciting to see what kind of antics they will do together on the screen.
