Batman v Superman Easter Egg Found in Final Joker Trailer

It's been made clear that Todd Phillips' Joker is taking place in an alternate reality DC and will have no relation to the larger DCEU. What's interesting is, the final trailer actually has a callback to Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

As pointed out by u/Ferdinando_Fallica on Reddit, you can spot the poster for Excalibur (1981) in the final Joker trailer. The very same kind of poster can be seen in BvS right before we get to see Wayne's murdered for the billionth time:

DISCUSSION: Hello Excalibur... RIP Waynes.

While I don't think it really means much for the story as a whole, I think it can be a neat nod to the DCEU's "multiverse". If Joker manages to be a success, we could see WB leaning into DC Black, a branch focused on one-off films that don't have anything to do with the main timeline. Of course, this will only happen if Joker is a success. For now, WB is just testing the waters.

We don't know if the Waynes will actually die in Joker, but having the films supposedly take place around the same year could be a neat nod to consistency. Bruce Wayne in this film is the right age to lose his parents, and it adds another layer of backstory if it was Joker's clowns that indirectly caused the death of the Waynes—in this universe at least.

Catch Joker when it hits theaters Oct. 4.
