Batman Begins Screen Tests Had Christian Bale Using Val Kilmer's Batman Suit

The Dark Knight trilogy is still seen by many as one of the best superhero sagas ever conceived and it's all thanks to director Christopher Nolan, who managed to ground Batman and still know what makes him tick. It all started with Batman Begins, which is a bit flawed when compared to The Dark Knight but is still a solid entry into this franchise that a lot of people like to go back to.

As it turns out, Christian Bale, and everyone else who auditioned for the role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, didn't start out with the costume that made it to Batman Begins. This test footage shows that Bale and Cillian Murphy, who ended up getting the role of Scarecrow, had to do some of their Batman audition with the Val Kilmer Batman suit from Batman Forever.

Honestly, it's pretty surreal to see since Batman Begins is so far-divorced from the campiness of Batman Forever. While Forever isn't seen as a terrible movie - in fact, it made a ton of money - the movie did make studios think that audiences only want campy superhero movies, which is what led to the horrible but funny to watch Batman and Robin.

Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises are now available on Blu-Ray and digital services. You can also watch the campy Batman movies but why would you do that? Then again, we all need a good laugh so maybe check them out?
