One of the things we know about Badland Hunters is that it takes place in a dystopian Seoul, after the events of a massive earthquake.

The lead characters are on a quest to rescue Su-na (played by Roh Jeong-eui), who was kidnapped by Yang Ki-su (played by Lee Hee-joon).

The trailer hints that Yang Ki-su is the only doctor who survived the earthquake. But as the trailer progresses, we see the crazed doctor injecting something into the neck of a girl.

We're left to wonder what kind of human experiments he is conducting and whether the monsters in Badland Hunters are his doing.

In an interview, the supposed Badland Hunters villain, Hee-joon said:

"As the work has a clear opposition between good and evil, I wondered how to make the drama more interesting. I imagined how it would feel to survive in such a world every day while creating my character."

It's easy to associate Badland Hunters with a new zombie film simply because of its lead actor, Ma Dong-seok. He previously starred in the hit Korean zombie thriller, Train to Busan, along with Gong Yoo.

Dong-seok's character in Train to Busan was a fan-favorite, who eventually turned into a zombie.

But before he could do that, he made the ultimate sacrifice by stopping the horde of zombies from entering the train cart, giving the survivors a chance to escape.

For this reason, along with the sequence hinted at in the trailer, people think that Badland Hunters is an upcoming zombie film. But is it one?

Sadly, Dong-seok confirmed that no zombies appear in Badland Hunters. He told YNA:

"Some people say zombies appear in our film, but the truth is, there are no zombies. It features a different kind of creature."

Right now, we don't know for sure what kind of creature is featured in Badland Hunters. One of the trailers shows that they are zombie-like people but with reptilian-like behavior in their eyes.

You can check it out in this trailer.

We'll have to wait for the film to be released before we get our answer. Badland Hunters is coming out on Netflix on January 26, 2024.
