Badland Hunters is not your typical Korean zombie flick, where you get bitten and eventually turn into one of them through the virus or venom. It's a lot more complicated than you may think. That said, what are the monsters in Badland Hunters?

The "monsters" in Badland Hunters aren't exactly the typical zombies we'd find in the flick's genre.

As seen from the trailer, these "monsters" were similar to that of reptilian sources—those who can grow their limbs back and survive without water for a long period.

See, on the day of the great Earthquake, Doctor Yang Gi-su was caught by the authorities conducting illegal experiments on over a hundred lives.

It was all to accomplish his main goal and that is to revive his only daughter.

Since the great Earthquake, Seoul has experienced drought, nearly at the end of the world now that the lands can rarely gather clean water to drink and bathe with. That's where the doctor comes in.

The doctor had created a cult of followers, soldiers, and a teacher, who would follow his every order to achieve so-called immortality and survive in their waterless world.

Sure enough, his experiments had become fruitful. Most of his trusted soldiers on the frontlines were able to live, despite cutting off their limbs.

When a soldier gets shot in the heart, he can come back to life, with his flesh sewing back up. The doctor even claimed he survived for three months without sipping any water.

This begs the question, how were the monsters even made in the Netflix movie?

Remember the crocodiles and reptilian animals present in the trailer? Well, as it turned out, they were part of the doctor's plans and experimentations.

The beginning of the flick saw a couple of reptiles crawling about with mutations growing on their back, an implication that the doctor had used them for his immortality experiment. Here's how he "makes" the monsters.

When the doctor and his colleagues first take newcomers into the apartment building, the first thing they offer the people from the outlands is water.

But what they don't know is that the "clean water" being offered seems to have been tampered with, specifically to make sure that those who drink it would sustain the doctor's lizard-like life pumping through his veins.

The only way to kill these creatures is by chopping off the root of their life—their heads.

It is worth mentioning that the "zombies" that were seen in the trailer only appeared near the end of the flick. They were the failed subjects who lost their sanity in the process.

If anything, this makes the doctor all the scarier of a villain to fight against.
