Backlash Over Star Wars: The Last Jedi is Important Says Rian Johnson

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is still showing in theaters and will continue to polarize fans of the franchise. There are those that love the risks taken by the film, while others hate it for the way some plot points were dropped like a sack of potatoes, after being built up in The Force Awakens. Johnson had previously commented on the mixed reception the film received but now adds something a little more interesting to the proceedings.

On Twitter, Johnson was asked by a fan if the film's polarising nature was a good thing. Though Johnson said the goal was never to divide the fan base, he does feel that the conversations that are coming out of it are necessary. The Last Jedi director feels that these talks are needed so that the franchise can grow into something better than it currently is.

Despite positive reviews from critics, some fans of the series were not pleased with some of the decisions made in the film. Considering how divided fans are, it will be interesting to see how they react to Johnson's upcoming Star Wars trilogy, which will focus on a whole new story in a different part of the franchise's universe. If anyone can bring Star Wars to a new direction, it is Rian Johnson.
