In case you missed it, Ansel Elgort is trending on social media for all the wrong reasons. The Baby Driver star is being accused of sexual assault of a minor in an incident that happened in 2014. Now Elgort has finally addressed the issue and claims that the relationship was "entirely consensual".

On Friday, a Twitter user named "gabby" shared a statement on the platform accusing Elgort of sexually assaulting her in 2014. Gabby was 17 years old at the time while Elgort was already in his early 20s. According to Gabby, she met Elgort through social media and their eventual meeting led to the aforementioned assault. The young woman says the assault has haunted her for years and has led to panic attacks and therapy sessions.

In response, Elgort posted a statement on his official Instagram account. In the post, the Goldfinch star wrote about being "distressed to see the social media posts about me that have been circulating in the past 24 hours."

"I have never and would never assault anyone. What is true is that in New York in 2014, when I was 20, Gabby and I had a brief, legal, and entirely consensual relationship. Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well. I stopped responding to her which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone. I know this belated apology does not absolve me of my unacceptable behavior when I disappeared," Elgort wrote.

He concluded by stating that he is "disgusted and deeply ashamed of the way I acted" when he looks back at his "attitude." Elgort then writes, "I am truly sorry. I know I must continue to reflect, learn, and work to grow in empathy."
