Just before we say goodbye to Apple TV+'s adaptation of the novel, Lessons in Chemistry, the TV show introduced a new character to its viewers. But who is Avery Parker from the show?

As it turns out, Avery is the grandmother of Madeline and the mother of Calvin. Her devastating backstory gets told to both Elizabeth and Madeline.

As it turns out, Avery was only 16 when she got pregnant with Calvin. As a result, her parents took away her son from her.

When she turned 25, she gained access to her trust fund, which she used to look for Calvin. She had hired Wilson to be her lawyer and look for Calvin.

At the same time, Avery put up the Remsen Foundation. She founded the organization to donate money to boy's homes. She hoped that through this, she would be able to help Calvin.

When Wilson eventually discovered where Calvin was, they learned that they were too late. The bishop of St. Luke's tells them that he has passed away.

Years later, Avery finds a picture of Calvin in a science magazine. She sent him several unanswered letters. Eventually, Avery's lawyers send her a cease-and-desist letter. As it turns out, Calvin had thought that his mother had died.

While Calvin is no longer with them, Avery asks Elizabeth if she could get to know her granddaughter. Elizabeth doesn't make a decision right away.

Over the holidays, Elizabeth decides to make serious changes in her life. She decides to quit her TV job so she can concentrate on science once again. This allows Avery to reach out and fund Elizabeth's projects. In doing so, she has a chance to get to know her granddaughter.
