The Marvel Cinematic Universe has no shortage of compelling villains but the name Ultron isn't exactly held in high regard unlike top-tier characters such as Hela, Killmonger, and the Infinity Saga's big bad himself, Thanos. By no means is Ultron an awful antagonist, but his brief stint in the billion-dollar franchise was completely overshadowed by other characters, and wasn't able to live up to his true potential.
Now, with all the multiversal shenanigans that have been going on in the MCU since the start of Phase 4, there seems to be renewed hope within the fandom that the character will be given another go as the Multiverse saga continues to shape up. But what if we told you that the same Ultron the Avengers vanquished in 2015's Age of Ultron is still alive?
The Cosmic Circus reports that Ultron could make his way back to Earth-616 in a future project. The outlet's source claims that "the Ultron A.I. was not destroyed in the wake of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and remnants of the Ultron A.I. are still active but 'dormant.'"
They didn't specify when the A.I. could make his return but it would be safe to assume that shows like Armor Wars or even Vision Quest could mark his grand MCU comeback. Previously, the character was casually namedropped in WandaVision and served as the What If...?'s main villain.

As it stands, Ultron's rumored return to the Marvel realm has yet to be confirmed but I personally wouldn't mind if Marvel Studios gives him his shot at redemption. I mean, can you imagine if they adopted the story from What If...? where he successfully inhabited Vision's vibranium body?
Avengers: Age of Ultron is available to stream on Disney+.
