Avengers: Endgame’s Russo Brothers Reportedly Among Favorites for New Star Wars Trilogy

Star Wars fans were certainly surprised when word came out that Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff were exiting their Star Wars trilogy. Disney had already allocated a release date for the first film in the duo's new trilogy and fans were looking forward to what Benioff and Weiss had planned for Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away.

Now that the two are off the table, Lucasfilm has to recalibrate its plans for the Star Wars franchise and now rumors are spreading that Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are among the favourites to take over Benioff and Weiss new trilogy.

A report by Ladbrokes (via Express) ranks some of the favories to take over DnD's new Star Wars project and while Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson still ranks first with his price coming at 7-2, the report suggests that the Russo Brothers have come in second with a price coming in at 4-1.

This shouldn't really come as a surprise to fans. The Russos have done a lot for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only were their previous films Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War received well by fans, their two-part Avengers movie which entailed Infinity War and Endgame were major commercial and critical successes.

Though we advise fans to take the report with a grain of salt, we aren't really surprised to hear that Lucasfilm might want to have a piece of the Russo Brothers' magic.
