Avengers: Endgame’s Final Cut Is Longer Than The Director’s Original Edit

Avengers: Endgame is making its way to the big screen in all its three-hour-long glory, but what Marvel fans don't know is that the film was supposed to be a tad bit shorter than its overwhelming runtime.

Though Marvel fans have been hoping to see a director's cut longer than Endgame's three-hour and six-minute long theatrical cut, however, Joe and Anthony Russo say their version of the film is actually shorter.

Speaking in an interview with Collider,Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo talk about the runtime of the second entry in their two-part Avengers movie, revealing that their original cut for the film was actually a bit shorter than what's going to be screened in cinemas.

"We've been working on this movie for well over a year in editorial because we finished it in 2018, and it literally hasn't moved maybe more than two minutes from its original runtime on the director's cut," Joe Russo told the news outlet. "It's just a tough one. There's just a lot of story in it. We like emotional stakes that require screen time."

"We have almost everything in this move that we shot... I think [our first cut] was slightly shorter than this," the director went on.

Hearing the Russos say that the runtime hasn't changed much in the film's post-production process means that the directors meticulously went through the shots in the film, making sure that each scene, each sequence would make an impact on fans.

Of course, the three-hour-long runtime may sound a bit overwhelming to some, however, most fans are eager to get through what is Marvel's longest running entry.

Avengers: Endgame premieres April 26, 2019.
