Avengers: Endgame Writers Respond To Whether Or Not Cap Could Wield The Infinity Gauntlet

Marvel fans are very much aware of how deadly the Infinity Stones can be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Wielding even one stone can be deadly for many. Using six at the same time can be absolutely fatal to some, especially if the individual using the stones isn't particularly powerful.

In Avengers: Endgame, viewers get to see Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) use all six Infinity Stones to undo Thanos' massacre and bring back the lives that were lost in the Decimation. Now, fans wonder whether Captain America (Chris Evans) could have used the Gauntlet as well.

While some believe that Steve Rogers might have the power to wield the gauntlet and survive, this fan theory has been shot down by Endgame screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the writers reveal whether or not Captain America could have survived using the Infinity Gauntlet.

"I think Steve would be toast," Markus explained. "I think in that moment, Thanos is impressed by Steve's will. He's like, 'I can't believe this guy who apparently has no powers is trying this.' He's almost like, 'Really? Really?'" So, despite the super soldier serum pumping through his veins, Steve would have been incapable of surviving the Gauntlet."

At the end of the day, like Iron Man (Tony Stark), Captain America isn't strong or powerful enough to take the full brunt of all six Infinity Stones. The writers have long since made it clear that only characters like Thanos and Hulk are strong enough to do so.

So much for fan theories.

Avengers: Endgame is currently screening in cinemas.
