There is little doubt that Avengers: Endgame was all about Tony Stark sacrificing himself to save the universe. However, the Russo brothers have just revealed that Iron Man was not the real MVP. Instead, the film's hero had a much smaller yet still very important role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick.
In Endgame, Tony Stark managed to wear the new Infinity Gauntlet and snapped Thanos and his army from existence. It was a heroic move that saved everyone but also damaged Tony's body so much that he was killed.
The sacrifice had people mourning over Iron Man and calling him the Endgame's ultimate defender. On the other hand, Joe and Anthony Russo would like to remind you that the hero who made all that possible may have been instantly forgotten.
Joe Russo was recently interviewed by the Chinese site Youth Circle. The Endgame co-director immediately pointed to the little mouse that pressed the buttons in Scott Lang's van as being the real MVP.
"This is the case, the mouse saved the entire universe," Russo said. "It is indeed a big coincidence, so Dr. Strange has only seen this possibility in 14 million deductions. In the other millions of deductions, the mouse did not press the button, and the latter did not happen. In countless futures, there is only one future where the mouse is pressed and the world is saved."

In case you missed it, Scott Lang's van had been impounded in San Francisco five years after the events in Avengers: Infinity War. Ant-Man only managed to get out of the Quantum Realm when a rat came across the buttons and accidentally pressed them. Sure, it was an accident, but we still have to thank the mouse for saving the universe.
Avengers: Endgame is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
