Avengers: Endgame Could Beat Star Wars: Episode IX At The Box Office

2019 is the year where we will be getting two major films from two of the biggest franchises in Hollywood. But who will win at the box office? A new report suggests that Avengers: Endgame will easily defeat Star Wars: Episode IX because of a rather depressing reason.

The prediction comes from The Hollywood Reporter's entertainment expert Borys Kit. According to Kit, Endgame is set to win big largely because of how Avengers: Infinity War concluded and a current "downswing" that the Star Wars franchise is experiencing. Nevertheless, there is still hope for Episode IX.

"Not only due to the jaw-dropping cliffhanger that left audiences wanting more, but because of the potential goodbye aspect for some of the actors," Kit said. "Episode IX is, unfortunately, coming when Star Wars is on a downswing, after Last Jedi and Solo. But expect some strong marketing to really build up fan excitement."

The excitement over Endgame has a lot to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's major leads played by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth. After all, the fourth Avengers film is set to be the final project in their contracts. That reason alone should give the MCU an edge over Lucasfilm's 2019 offering. Nevertheless, Kit confirmed that there could only be one true winner at the end of the day.

"Both movies will be huge," he said. "It's a riff on the popular tagline: No matter who wins or loses, Disney wins it all."

For now, it looks like Endgame has already raised excitement, thanks to the release of the film's first trailer and title reveal. Perhaps fans will start to look forward to Episode IX once its trailer and title are finally announced.

Avengers: Endgame will hit theaters on April 26. The still-untitled Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20.
