There's been a lot of theories about what might come in Avengers 4, and one of the most popular postulations that's been circulating online is the possibility that we'll get to see Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) traveling back in time to undo Thanos' massacre in Avengers: Infinity War.
Now, forming a new hypothesis based on what it calls a clue from old Avengers 4 set photos, Screen Rant suggests that Iron Man's little trip through time is going to change the personal history of the Asgardian God of Mischief, Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
Last year, fans got to see a batch of images taken from the set of Avengers 4 showing RDJ wearing a SHIELD tactical vest. The most popular theory that's sprouted from the leaked photos says that Tony Stark would be going back through time to gather the Infinity Stones before Thanos can even get his hands on the gems.
However, according to Screen Rant, that might not be the case at all. If Tony does try to take the Mind Stone from Loki, then the Avenger could disrupt the timeline and cause significant changes to the lives of everyone on the planet. Taking away the Mind Stone would prevent Thor from taking Loki back to Asgard, or Odin from fixing the Rainbow Bridge. Without the Mind Stone in place, then fans would neither have Ultron or Vision.
Instead, what Tony may be trying to do is to learn crucial information about Thanos by approaching the earlier version of Loki. Not only would that be more subtle, but it would also keep the timeline intact for the events leading up to Infinity War. The Avengers are going to have to be smart about how they undo Thanos' snappening. They can't just mess around with the timeline – that would wreak havoc on the universe.
