It has been 13 years since the first Avatar movie arrived and introduced Pandora to everyone. Now, another trip back to Pandora awaits with Avatar: The Way of Water, with more movies lined up for the franchise in the future but on the possibility of extending to TV shows, James Cameron will have the last say on that.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Avatar: The Way of Water director James Cameron, together with producer Jon Landau, shared whether it would be possible to have Avatar spinoff series in the future with 20th Century Studios now attached to Disney Plus.

Landau expressed his thought on the matter first, "You know, look, we want to be trendsetters and not trend followers. But we see the world of Pandora as one that can expand beyond the film."

James Cameron responded, "In terms of spinning off from Avatar, the problem is the characters are photoreal CG and it doesn't really fit a TV pipeline kind of model yet."

Cameron when the timeline of that could happen, "Now, maybe 10 years from now, if we inject enough machine, deep-learning, and A.I. into the process, it might be possible to collapse down from a one year timeline to do a shot, down closer to real time."

Cameron further explained, "I don't know if we'll get to real time but I think we might get close enough to do television, but it won't be for, I'd say minimum five years, maybe more like 10."

The Avatar franchise is already set in place with Avatar 3 already under development, and the other films in pre-production stage but all of these would depend on the success of Avatar: The Way of Water, which is likely to happen, considering the excitement that it brings.

Avatar: The Way of Water will finally arrive on screen with a new take on Pandora and another threat coming into the Na'vi people which comes from an age old enemy of theirs, the humans.

Avatar: The Way of Water will feature the family of Jake and Neytiri, their children, Neteyam, Lo'ak, and Tuktirey, and their adopted kids, Spider, a human, and Kiri, a teenage Na'vi. Their family would be doing everything in their power to ensure their safety whilst Jake being torn between the two factions.
