The first season of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender introduced the incredible bond between Uncle Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) and Zuko (Dallas Liu). However, it looks like everything will change after Lee teases a conflict that may destroy the two’s relationship in Season 2.

Netflix has renewed the show for two more seasons to wrap up Aang’s journey and fight against the Fire Nation. Of course, this will also bring back the dynamic between Iroh and Zuko.

However, knowing their bond has changed in Book Two of Nickelodeon’s original animated series, it will also be depicted in Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2.

In an interview with The Direct at Paleyfest 2024, Lee revealed that he’s not looking forward to seeing this part of the duo's storyline.

“It’s gonna suck so hard because I’ll be alone,” he said.

But despite this major change, fans are about to witness “really good storytelling.”

“That's one of the lovely things about our story arcs is the fact that you see them together at first, you establish that, and then really good storytelling is putting people through conflict,” he continued.

Lee added that seeing Iroh and Zuko separated would be “heartbreaking.” However, he assured me their time apart would come with a great story.

But whatever the case is, the actor admits he will miss Liu.

Meanwhile, in a different interview, Liu teased that Zuko’s split from Iroh would “feel real.” After working with the Canadian star for so long in the first season, separating from him would be hard as he was the backbone of their dynamic.

“That relationship is truly why I think the chemistry between the two of us is why those scenes feel so strong,” he explained.

With Zuko’s conflict with Iroh in Avatar Season 2, Liu hopes his character will be strong despite being alone.

He also talked about the Fire Nation prince’s rivalry with his sister, Azula (Elizabeth Yu), and teased how they would nail the characters’ ongoing sibling rivalry.

“We feel we would kill it,” he said.

Now that their “sibling vibe” has grown after spending so much time together to promote the first season, fans are about to see what they will bring to the table next season.

The Netflix remake has been faithful to its source material, so the second season is expected to adapt the original series’ Book Two. If this happens, it will see Aang and his friends, Katara and Sokka, go on a quest to find an Earthbending teacher.

Aang continues his journey to master all four elements—earth, water, air, and fire—to fully become the Avatar. Hence, this may be seen in the introduction of the fan-favourite character, Toph Beifong, who will teach Aang her Earthbending abilities.

As one of the most powerful Earthbending masters of her time, fans need to see how these two will work together.

The first season of the live-action Avatar is now streaming on Netflix. The streamer has yet to announce when Avatar Season 2 will be out.
