Avatar 3 Producer Shuts Down Vin Diesel’s Casting Rumors

James Cameron had made it clear that he isn’t interested in casting famous actors in his Avatar franchise, however, a long-running rumor of Vin Diesel being casted in Avatar: The Way of Water back in 2019 had resurfaced. Though we had not seen the actor in Avatar 2, this raises speculation that the Fast & Furious star could possibly be cast in the future Avatar sequels. Producer Jon Landau, however, debunks this rumor.

It was back in 2019 when Vin Diesel had taken to Instagram a video he made with James Cameron on the set of, as quoted from Cameron, “Avatars 2, 3, 4, and 5.” Cameron had mentioned how big of a fan the actor was, all the while Diesel had been basically hinting to keep the video a secret, indicating that “nobody saw this”, which potentially sparked the casting rumor.

But in a recent interview with Empire, producer Landau says that was not the case. Despite Diesel stating, “There is one person in Hollywood I’ve always wanted to work with and learn from, and so, all things come, I guess, to those that wait” in the Instagram video, Landau says people took the video out of context. Check out his full comment below:

“Vin was a fan,” Landau said, “He came in, visited the set one day to see what we were doing and people took that out of context.”

Avatar: The Way of Water took years before it was eventually released, due to its many delays, including the ongoing pandemic. However, it was worth the wait, as the sequel continues to soar in the box office, securing its Avatar sequels. While some parts of Avatars 3 to 5 have already been filmed ahead of time, is it possible for Vin Diesel to still score a role in the subsequent films?

Avatar: The Way of Water is still showing in cinemas worldwide, with Avatar 3 or Avatar: The Seed Bearer currently slated for a theatrical release on December 20, 2024.
