Given her background in sketch comedy and improv at the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater, Aubrey Plaza is continuously gaining widespread attention in the Hollywood scene, from April Ludgate on Parks and Recreation to HBO’s The White Lotus: Harper Spiller.
Having also been recently tapped to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Plaza continues to be unstoppable in giving more quality outputs. In an interview with GQ, the comic revealed she aspires to be the female counterpart of well-decorated filmmaker Tim Burton.
"I’m trying to fill the female Tim Burton slot," she said, talking about what she wrote and plans to direct in her own family-friendly movie, which remains in the vault but sounds promising nonetheless.
Aside from being a versatile actress, Plaza is exploring the realms of screenwriting and filmmaking. She shared some hints on where the inspiration for her current project originated: “Think Hocus Pocus, or Beetlejuice,”
In another interview with Deadline, the White Lotus star attested that she, Martin Scorsese, and Steven Spielberg are the real Avengers of cinema.
“I’m one of the last people that’s kind of waving that theatrical flag. Me, Martin Scorsese and Spielberg, just the three of us,” asserted Plaza.
She added, “I just believe with all my heart that if you make a movie that’s undeniably great, people will hear about it and want to see it.”
