The latest episode of Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 was a truly shocking one as Eren Yeager's grand plan was finally revealed. However, Episode 79 also solved a mystery that has been around since Season 3. Fans have been wondering what Eren saw when he kissed Historia Reiss' hand in the previous season and now that secret has finally been revealed!
In Attack on Titan Episode 79, Zeke Yeager used the Founding Titan's ability to show their father's memories to Eren. Interestingly, it was confirmed that Grisha Yeager had never brainwashed his son and that he wanted Eren to find his own path.
As the brothers continue to explore Grisha's memories, they finally see what happened when their father confronted the Reiss family. Amazingly, it was confirmed that Eren had goaded Grisha into slaughtering the entire family and as his father sprung into action, we are brought back to the Season 3 moment when Eren kissed Historia's hand.
The flashback isn't just a random shot in Attack on Titan Episode 79. It confirms that Eren saw how his future self would persuade his own father to massacre the family at the same time as Grisha confirms he sees what lies ahead for his son. In essence, kissing Historia's hand allowed Eren to see his own future.
It's a shocking revelation that means Eren already knows what will happen no matter what Zeke does. But can the future be changed? We'll be learning about the past in the next episode but there is little doubt we'll find the truth next week.
Attack on Titan Episode 80 is titled From You, 2,000 Years Ago ("Nisennen-mae no Kimi kara") and is named after the manga's Chapter 122. Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 21 will premiere on Monday, February 7, 2022, at 12:05 AM JST.
